Najaster (Arabic: نجاستر) is the capital and largest city of the Democratic Soviet Republic of Kahanistan. It houses the Kahanistanian Presidential Palace and other important buildings related to Kahanistanian governmental functions.
History of Najaster
Most of the records of Najaster were destroyed in the many wars Kahanistan has fought. However, two competing theories exist as to the origin of the name. It is derived from the Arabic word najis, meaning "filthy." The prevalent theory is that the name is derived from the settlement being the place of execution of "filthy" theocrats to secure a democratic Kahanistan. The other theory is that it was named after religiously unclean "filth" as a way of forcefully stating the secularity of the new Middle Eastern democracy.
Tourism in Najaster
Visitors to Najaster are often astounded by the many extremely high buildings that stand in the city and other Kahanistanian cities. These enable a nation roughly the size of Belgium to hold a population larger than that of China. The apartment buildings are constructed of tungsten carbide, tantalum, and other extremely strong materials. Each building reaches over 165 floors and houses between 100,000 and 400,000 people. Some people plaster mud onto the outside of their floors and/or hang gardening vats outside their windows, some of which are large enough to grow small trees, a testament to the will of the people to develop this desert land.
Transportation
Najaster's subways are somewhat better maintained than those in the rest of the country, using maglevs to rapidly ferry individuals to numerous locations in the city to alleviate the obscene traffic congestion, aggravated by thirty-two lane highways and tall car parks. There is little pollution in Kahanistan, despite the traffic, as nuclear power and biodiesel provide most energy needs.
