History of the Stevidian National Rail Network Company

The National Rail Company is the only rail company that operates in Stevid and so has no contenders and is an extremely rich company. National Rail has thousands if not millions of locomotives running day after day in Stevid and Rubet Island and has millions of stations all over the country. Such a vast network of railway lines, junctions and multiple other accessories that National Rail uses, is expensive and difficult to run efficiently and so have Central Railway Mainframes (CRM “Region Name”) dotted all over the country to control rail traffic in and out of the many regions in Stevid. The National Rail Network also stretches over seas on other countries and colonies.

Adaptus Astrates is the only fully-fledged nation in the Holy Stevidian Empire that makes extensive use of their own Railway Company and Stevidian National Rail. AA/S National Rail work co-operatively and have networks that are shared by both companies all over Adaptus Astrates. The railway companies decided to merge together in one nation and work co-operatively together when Adaptus Astrates became part of the Empire. The only Imperial nation not using National Rail is Kurona and is unlikely to implement it soon. However, Imperial Colonies of the Empire do use National Rail since they are effectively and extension of Stevid. The North Hanover Island Chain Dependency is the latest island to have a National Rail commercial and civilian presence. Island colonies all over the world that belong to Stevid make use of National Rail on a smaller scale to the Stevid/Rubet/Adaptus Astrates National Rail service but the presence of such a prosperous network is felt throughout the Empire. With National Rail, the Empire and Stevid would grid to a steady halt.

Services

The National Rail, like all other national rails in the world, has services that are needed en mass for the country to operate effectively. The services the every CRM in Stevid and every colony are always the same- Commercial and Industrial. Such includes extremely power train pulling long stretches of carriages for long travelling to the North of Stevid from the South to small or large freight trains delivering goods throughout the nation and it’s Empire.

Commercial

The most common sight on the railways in Stevid are the passenger trains. These trains are the primary long distance transports that deliver billions of people to their destinations all around the country. Commercial trains carry passengers and come in a variety sizes and types- from small country trains to huge locomotives pulling and pushing up to forty carriages at some of the largest stations in the country. Country train lines usually carry smaller locomotives with around five to eight carriages and transport people between towns, villages to cities and other smaller population centres. These trains are one of the country’s major ways to connect small towns and villages to the great metropolises like the capital city and similar sized areas. Other areas of trains would include intercity trains with large locomotives with carriages numbering up twelve. Such trains transport vast amounts of people around the country 24/7. These are the most common trains and can be seen everyday all around the country in thousands.

Other less common locomotives in Stevid are the hugely powerful ones that take in tow almost thirty carriages and transport people from the fortress cities and other similar sized cities in Stevid. These locomotives are incredibly powerful and have the power to move tremendously large carriages thirty times over and still clock up 150mph at full pelt. These trains operate on a single rail for each train seeing as junctions and shunting is simply a waste of time for such large trains. These trains run on a different sized railway line and can have up to four tracks running parallel taking one of these titanic trains each. This means that major city stations must have up to six platforms that are long enough to accommodate such large trains such as these ones. Millions of people travel between the largest cities in Stevid and use these trains to get there quicker than by car or plane.

Industrial

Industry is what makes Stevid one of the greats in military production and Uranium mining. Thousands of locomotives towing trailers, and other consist that transport goods all around the country. Stevid prides itself on it’s navy and ship building and so iron, coal, uranium and other metals and fuel are required to be transported en mass to major industrial cities in Stevid. National Rail, again, provide the locomotives and the consist for companies to use for transporting the goods

The Stevidian Wastelands is were the most major of mining is conducted, uranium mining is conducted in the wastelands and many railway lines travel throughout the wastelands delivering materials of uranium, metal and ore to areas in the wastelands and outside the wastelands. The locomotives pull tons upon tons of consist at a time and deliver good almost on time throughout Stevid since the demand of industry requires such feats of materials to shove into defence manufacture.

Other industries exist outside of the wastelands. Logging, mining of metals and other materials (chalk for example) are conducted in the North and the West of the country and are also transported throughout the country. The industrial consist travels on the same railway network as commercial civilian trains and there is no separate track line for industrial consist to travel on until they enter the industrial heartland of any town or city. This not only is cost effective but also means that workers can easily travel from their workplace back home and vice versa.

Underground/Tube

The four Fortress Cities in Stevid have some of the most complex and yet effective tube networks in the country. Inner-city travel via bus or car is usually very stressful in the city centres at rush hour and so the underground network provides the cities with a cost effective answer. In the capital city, there are over three hundred and twenty different stops within the city and all are usually busy everyday. Each underground station usually has between two and eight platforms. The ones with two platforms have trains that go either Northbound and Southbound, or Westbound or Eastbound. Ones with more than two means that the station is a connection point to other underground routes that passengers can switch over to reach another destination.

The ‘’Stevid Capita Underground’’ has numerous lines throughout the underground- Jubilee, Portland, Central, Circle, Mayfair, Embassy, Palace, Embankment, Conroy, Langley, International, Medusa and Farthing Well- these are the thirteen out of sixteen major lines that are the most used, the other lines are on most of the outskirts and connect the outskirts together and so are not as important as the central tube lines.

Security

Security of the underground tube system is not high on the agenda but given the huge amount of tunnels under the city, some go very deep under the surface and so an attack or mechanical fault in the deepest of tunnel could mean hours upon hours of waiting for rescue. Security is present in the major underground and railway stations but is not as obvious as it were during the dictatorship of Stevid were it was practically martial law. There are emergency response units that include paramedics, police and the Fire Brigade that are immediately alerted to an accident or similar incident.
