The National Security Act of 1955 was one of the most significant and far-reaching laws in Parthian history. It provided the government with absolute - some would say draconian - political control. Signed into law during the reign of Shah Ardeshir XI, it made dissent virtually synonymous with treason, outlawed Tudeh (the Iranian Communist Party), established the Parthian National Party as the sole legal party, and led to the establishment of the Organization for Intelligence and National Security, better known by its Iranian acronym, "SAVAK."
