Naval Autonomous and Integrated Air Defence System
Naval Autonomous and Integrated Air Defence System or NAIADS, a joint product of Turing-Babbage Electromechanical Devices, plc, Lyme and Martens Industries, plc, and the Royal Shipyards of Isselmere-Nieland, is a datalink (Link 21) that serves to coordinate a naval unit's air defence assets based on sensor information from the linked ships — including ship positions from the associated shipborne navigation systems — and anti-air weapons inventories provided by the vessels' Integrated Shipboard Operations Management Systems (ISOMS). Theoretically, NAIADS enables the station(s) with the best firing solution and the best counter to the threat(s) to respond, even if the targeting array and launcher are on different stations.
NAIADS requires extensive processing and electrical power to ensure rapid coordination and to continue operating under heavy barrage jamming. The datalink is, however, a secure system, and is regularly updated to counter threats.
