History

Nederland and Holland

In the beginning there were both Holland and Nederland that had quite a large number of Dutch people in it. The foundations of both were lost in the mists of time. The oldest-known history is when Knootoss moved into Nederland with some of his friends and took over the delegacy in an otherwise inactive region. Knootoss attempted to activate the region, but the original inhabitants did not all take kindly to this. Three of these nations eventually split off to form the inactive Brabant region. Soon thereafter, contacts were established with Holland which was by then already a thriving region.

Former Delegates

  • The former nation of Nederland is thought to be a likely candidate to have been delegate during the founding of the region. This is only speculation, however since no accurate records exist.
  • Knootoss June 2003 - ??
  • Green Knights 6 februari - 11 April 2004
  • Baarle-Hertog 12 April - 19 April 2004
  • Bagheeria 3 May - August 2004
  • Sheeping_Hollow 3 September - 2 November 2004
  • Dronrijp 3 November 2004 - 26 November 2004
  • Archoz 28 november - present day

Politics

Current Government

Nederland has just held elections and Archoz will be it's new delegate. The elections itself were very close. 7 votes for Archoz and 6 votes for Sheeping_Hollow. There aren't any ministers yet at this moment, the dutch expect that will be solved in next couple of days.

The Constitution

The Constitution is written in Dutch, the language of the region. The text below is a translation that has no legal value. It covers some basic stuff about how the region works, or should work.

De Grondwet:

1. General

Art 1. The Constitution applies to all states in the region Nederland or in the service of the region Nederland.
Art 2. All states will be treated equally in equal cases. Discrimination is forbidden.
Art 3. Rules cannot be applied retroactively.
Art 4. All states are oblidged to respect the terms of use of NationStates
Art.5 The regional language is Dutch
Art 6. Sanctions for transgressions are applied by the legislative branch. If there is no time for a legislative procedure the Delegate or the Founder may take a decision to act.
Art 7. The elections for Delegate will be held according to the Electoral Regulations. The elected delegate will appoint volunteers of his own choice as Ministers. The Ministerial departments are determined by the Delegate.
Art 8. The function of Judge in the legislative branch cannot be personally united with the function of Delegate or Minister.
Art 9. The functioning of the Legislative Branch is determined by the Law on Judicial Powers.
Art 10. The Constitution can only be changed after a general vote with at least a 2/3rds majority of votes cast. The discussion on the constitution will be open for a week and the vote itself will also last a week.

2. The UN Delegate

Art 11. The UN delegate, aside from being the regional representative in the UN, is the political leader of the region. The delegate may shape the image of the region as he desires, such as making changes to the World Fact Book, with the Founder checking for the reasonability of such acts.
Art 12. For every UN resolution a binding vote will be held amongst those nations who have been declared eligible to vote under the Electoral Regulations, with room for debate and changing votes. The delegate may support proposals for UN resolutions at his own discretion.
Art 13. The delegate will automatically gain acces to all regional information, especially the AIVD. This article does not apply to extraregional entities.

3. Defence

Art 14. All military actions of the region will be done on a voluntary basis.
Art 15. Espionage and military actions will only be considered done in the name of Nederland if they are approved and supported by the Delegate or a Minister empowered to do so.

4. The motion of distrust

Art 16. A motion of distrust against the Delegate or a Minister can be held if proposed by three nations eligible to vote according to the Electoral Regulations.
Art 17. If there is no time for a voting procedure the Founder may decide to appoint an interim Delegate immediately.
Art 18. A motion of distrust will remain in vote for a week, and will be accepted with a simple majority of the votes. If accepted, an interim Delegate will be appointed and new elections will be called.

Signed on behalf of the founder on Sunday the 4th of July 2004, De Vrije Democratische staten van Ballotonia

Signed as Delegate on Sunday the 4th of July, De Constitutionele Monarchie van Bagheeria

Alliances

The region is a founding member of the Allied Liberation League.

Also it has very good relations with the region of Belgium. Together with other dutch speaking regions they form the Benelux, which is basically a platform to Roleplay and having fun.
