New-Montana

New-Montana has had a very peculiar history as a state. Founded originally in the Oort cloud of the New Haven Socialist Republic system, the state numbered no more than 35,000 settlers, mainly occupying small SSUV-type vessels and a single processing/administration spaceport. After the NHSR decided Allanean presence in the area was offensive to its principles, Midlonia mediated a compromise in which war would be avoided by evacuating (towing) the settlers into the asteroid belt of the New-Idaho system, and declaring that as the State of New-Montana. Midlonia compensated each of the settlers a sum of 40,000 Universal Standard Dollars and NHSR added 50,000 EURO. Since the settlers moved to a more asteroid and ore-rich area, they tended to view the move as a great blessing.

New Montana is, in Allanean political speech, a ‘green state’, that is, it normally elects Libertarian senators [On Allanean political election maps, areas won by the Libertarian party are marked in green]. Because the population of New Montana is less than one million people, it has no Congressional representation.
