New Haven is a large, economically powerful communist nation with a population of over 8.1 billion people. Much of its recent history has involved its colonization attempts in the Elysium System and the reestablishment of the Imperium as an influence within the Orion Spur.

Brief New Haven History

One thousand years before its emergence as a world power, the area now known as the South Haven Archipelago was under the control of two factions: The West Islanders and East Islanders. The West Islanders controlled the western half of the Archipelago, and the East Islanders controlled the east. After two hundred years of occasional warfare, the West Islanders succeeded in wiping out the East Islanders, thus establishing the West Islander Empire.

The preindustrial empire was eventually swallowed up by Midlonia 200 years prior to the Rise of The Island States. At first, the natives were given respect and given positions within the Colonial Legislature. A decade before the Rise, the Colonial Legislature was shutdown and replaced with a tyrannical Administrator who tried to suppress all of those with Islander heredity politically and economically.

Rick Rivera, the militant son of a native electrician, rallied the colonists and the natives into a rebellion, fighting the Midlonian Imperial Army for ten years. With the final Battle of Freeport, the Midlonian Imperial Army withdrew from the region, leaving the Islanders and Midlonian colonists (who now looked rather similar due to two-hundred years of crossbreeding) to decide their fate. A National Convention was held, a constitution written, and the country founded.

On its first day of existance, The Island States was attacked by Tech-Annihater. The Island States sought help, and received it in the form of the future members of the United NationStates Anti Oppression and Tyranny Organization or (UNAOTO). The issue was forced into a cease-fire, and Tech-Annihater has never been heard from since.

The Island States went through several phases of turmoil, with the government shifting every so often (from republic to imperial dictatorship and back to republic). After joining the United Alliance of Progressive States (UnAPS), the government settled down into a rather permanent Second Republic. With that, The Island States' economy and military grew to incredible power, taking hold of the Continental Territory (The last stronghold of East Islanders in South Haven).

All seemed well, until the Allanea-UnAPS War brought about a quick set of changes. After the unsuccessful invasion of Allanea, The Island States took massive losses and a counterassault against The Island States seemed inevitable. On a cloudless night over Freeport, the military took complete control of the country after it was discovered that long-time President Rick Rivera was attempting to negotiate a peace deal and alliance with Allanea.

After the exile of Rick Rivera, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs James Newman (5-star general at the time) took control of the country and the war. Even though the war ended shortly thereafter, The Island States worked to counter Allanea at every opportunity.

Even though the war had ended in the near defeat of The Island States' military forces, it did not stop the country from making a critical change that would change its history. In a matter of hours, the Second Republic had ended, and was replaced with a Socialist Union. The Golden Age of Communism had arrived for The Island States. Quickly after reorganizing the government, President Newman contacted Edolia and Hattia, helping to create the Union of Socialist Republics.

Industry boomed, military might soared, leaders came and went, and nothing seemed to threaten The Island States. After the One Day War, The Island States reversed a long-standing tradition and began to assist Allanea, almost to the point of open warfare in space. The situation was resolved peacefully, leading to a TIS colonization of the New Haven System. This would eventually lead to the establishment of the New Haven Socialist Republic, turning the former Island States into a province of an even greater state.

During a session of Legislature, another president bearing the name James Newman was declared Imperator of New Haven, and a new constitution was drawn up limiting his powers somewhat. New Haven's Constitution dropped its membership with the Union of Socialist Republics, and the new government resembled the old Imperial system prior to the preindustrial occupation by Midlonia.

After Imperator Newman's death, his twin daughters took co-Imperator titles ahead of their elder brother due to his involvement in siphoning money illegally from the Imperial Treasury. Both Co-Imperators ruled prior to the Orion Incident and subsequent "Second Occupation of New Haven", bringing about governmental reforms and attempts to reign in New Haven's resurgent capitalism. However, this led to a chain of events that would lead to the defeat of the New Havenic military and occupation of New Havenic territory.

Following the Second Occupation of New Haven, only one Imperatrix remained in the Milky Way Galaxy to rule the Imperium once occupational forces left. Imperator Sara I began the process of rebuilding, including seizing any remaining power and consolidating it into a system similar to that utilized by Bryn Shander. However, economic problems continue to plague New Haven as it attempts to regain control of its control over its natural resources and industrial capacity.

With the recent discovery of the Elysium System, all attention has been rediverted to colonizing the system and expanding the Imperium's influence throughout the Orion Spur. What impact this colonization will have on the Imperium is not well understood, given what little is known about the system. However, given the rich metal deposits the system has to offer on its three habitable bodies and the helium-3 deposits within the primary gas giant's interior, the New Havenic economy is theorized to gain enough resources and industrial capacity to easily support constructing additional ships, including the currently planned SD-06 Bryn Shanderese Dreadnaught.
