The Supreme Union of New Mediterranean is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its strong anti-business politics. Its hard-nosed population of 2.334 billion are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.
The large government devotes most of its attentions to the Environment, with areas such as Healthcare and Social Equality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 36%, but much higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.
The government pours millions of Obols into rehabilitation programs annually, poets and writers are regularly rounded up and shot for entertainment, students are known to arrive at school in their pyjamas, and all alcohol is banned. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a serious problem. New Mediterranean's national animal is the Llama, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Obol.
