History
The tiny island was first inhabited by the Romans in 112 BC, when the island was given to General Solucius Maxitonius upon his retirement. A small community lived on the island which was named Soluciu Island and never numbered more than 400.
In 1391 AD a plague wiped out the small community and the island remained uninhabited for some 200 years before Dominic Albert Newton, an Englishman seeking a new life purchased the title of Island Govenor in 1601.
Newton moved his large family to the island and purchased 200 male and female slaves from Spain, who he set free and had work and build on the island. The small, simple community flourished and founded the town Arrabella.
