History

Founded in 2005 after the overthrow of dictator Joseph Kabila, the Commonwealth of Northern Congo (CNC) unites the former Democratic Republic of the Congo with Rwanda and Burundi. The creation of the CNC occured during a time of consolidation for the countries of central Africa. The first flag of the CNC was the same flag used by Mobutu Sésé Seko when he ruled Zaire, but was later changed.

Dissolution

After President Pougot and several high ranking goverment officals were simultaniously assinated in attacks by southern rebels, the Commonwealth entered a state of anarchy. Three months into the crisis, the central goverment found itself unable to control the entrie country, and dissolved the Commonwealth. The states which formerly made up the Commonwealth of Northern Congo all attempted to maintain order within their borders, but were unable to. Only one, The Republic of New Zangaro, exists as a functioning state today.

Natural Resources

The CNC is rich in mineral resources, such as diamond, copper, zinc, and uranium.

Military

The military of the CNC is divided into three branches: Army, Navy, and Air Force. They are a combined force of 400,000 men and women, with compulsatory military services for all citizens between the ages of 18 and 22.

Army

The army is four million men strong, with armored, infantry, and airborne units.

Navy

The Northern Congo has a large navy, which uses Mark II PBR and PCF patrol boats for operations on the CNC's river system. Production has also begun on the Type I, a small submarine for river patrols and special operations.

Air Force

The Air Force of the CNC flies:

  • 30 Mirage F-1 fighter aircraft
  • 23 MIG 21 fighter/bomber aircraft
  • 20 Tupolev TU-16 bomber aircraft
