Northwest Hemisphere

The UN classifies the Allied States of Northwest Hemisphere as a "New York Times Democracy". They are a young, burgeoning nation that was extremely small until the power changed hands to Truman J. Williamson and his idea of government. Then, the birth and immigration rates increased, and the population began to - and still is - increase greatly.

"The Allied States of Northwest Hemisphere is a very large, devout nation, remarkable for its burgeoning turtle population. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 87 million enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt morass -- juggles the competing demands of Education, Religion & Spirituality, and Defence. The average income tax rate is 43%, but much higher for the wealthy. A very small private sector is led by the Pizza Delivery industry, followed by Soda Sales and Cheese Exports."

Citizen's Rights

The majority of people living in ASoNWH are citizens, with few illegals. Citizen's rights are among the best, with their civil rights being classified by the UN as "Good" and the poltical freedoms being classified by the UN as "World Benchmark". The ASoNWH makes note of this in all brochures.

Crime and Economy

The ASoNWH have high crime rates, especially among young peoples, although that is being rectified by the "New-and-Improved" Congress. The economy has been going down and down, but is still in good condition, another well-known fact thanks to brochures.

History

When first founded by now-renound despot Kin Quincy, the ASoNWH was a somewhat peaceful, if oppressed country. Just twelve years after the founding, the small nation underwent several attempted violent coups and takeovers. However, Quincy stayed in power. Not until he ruled, after 30 years in power, that everyone over the age of 7 had to either become a chain smoker, join his army, or work as a seemtress in a factory, was real action taken. A small violent group, known as Up With People, (a well-known band on Earth, pure coincedence) was infiltrated by young Truman J. Williamson. Williamson believed in peace as ways to solve problems. However, he didn't show it well, assassinating Quincy and taking over power. He has been a better leader than Quincy, although not perfect. Williamson recently overwent a complete overhaul of Congress, after finding all had been bribed by a Mr. George Abramovv. No one has run against Williamson since seizing power.

Ideals and Government

No one truly knows how democratic this country is, seeing how only two men have held power, with neither being elected.
