The Paranoid Commercial Republic of Notquiteaplace is and has for long been primarily concerned with economy and own safety of self. This concept has dominated the Notquiteaplace mentality in carrying out affairs.

For the rather standard peoples of Notquiteaplace, increasing one's quality of life has proven to be the rudimentary goal of the typical individual, thus the notion of valuing of safety and freedom in the society.

While war is prevalent, it is not the be all and end all of Notquiteaplace existence. Within the country there is little crime, and as a group of islands has beaches along its coasts, with few jungles remaining.

History

Ever since it was abandoned by Great Britain as not being worth the effort, in the US war of independance, Notquiteaplace has gone it's own way. For some reason the US didn't want it either, and Notquiteaplace was left to it's own devices.

The exact history is unknown to most, but at some point, a series of wars united a series of Islands under one banner. Economic expansion followed and the world wars. Notquiteaplace deftly avoided these wars, but took notes, what moves started wars, how to win and so on. Infact, because it avoided the wars, Notquiteaplace became extremely defensivly minded. Spending on defence was increased and over time the army was upgraded from a few militiamen to one that makes part of the cutting edge of military technology in this new millenium. But it is not only this that makes Notquiteaplace unusual, it's that it rarely empolys force. By negotiating and making sensible allies, treating other nations as partners in trade, not rivals, and maintaining this respectable army simealteaneously, Notquiteaplace has stayed safe.

Notquiteaplace abandoned apartheid almost as soon as it was abandoned, and it was soon realised by all citizens that everyone, irrespective of skin colour or origin can contribute to the community, immigrants are accepted, infact welcomed with open arms.

Military

Notquiteaplace's military is unusual in two ways, firstly, it's huge navy, which contains a large number of carriers as well as other sturdy vessels. The navy is designed, down to the last ship to be hard to destroy, each ship features bulkheads to reduce missile damage and racks of advanced missile defence to stop missiles hitting it. As most citizens own a boat, the navy is also one of the most confident and confident sailing organisations in the world.

The army is somewhat more special. Rather than using the lightweight personnel armour that dominated 20th century warfare, the army uses heavier armour which reads the movements of the wearer and boosts his Strength, and while it is less stealthy than light armour, it allows a greater degree of agility than expected and makes taking down a target very difficult indeed. battlesuits exist which are actually completely bullet proof and mount bigger weapons. These units exist in much smaller numbers and are generally used for support and shock roles, as maintenance is difficult. In addition the power armoured troops take about $3.5 mil (usd used for comparison) of training per head and $1.5mil of equipment and logistical support while the battlesuits double the equipment at least. It's worth noting that the cost shows in terms of combat effectiveness. Therefore, whichever you face, killing Notquiteaplace troops is a difficult task. Elite units of more stealthy troops form the paratroop and other special ops units, making Notquiteaplace's army capable and very hard to destroy.

Notquiteaplace is also guarded by one of the most dense defense networks in the world, Polaris II an anti missile and aircraft network that can be left open or empty the skies of moving objects in moments with a storm of missiles. Strangely, despite having the capability to produce nuclear weapons at almost no notice (all relevant supplies have been procured and research completed) Notquiteaplace has no nuclear weapons.

Foreign affairs

Notquiteaplace is allied to few nations at the moment, barring it's historic neighbour Irondin, though it has been a TBA member for some time, it quit however over internal issues.

Notquiteaplace is Earth III and presently has troops deployed in Cuba to help restore order.
