Overview

Obertin Arashal is currently the ambassador to the United Nations from Ayrwll. Formerly a Senator himself, he has been appointed to this office by the High Council (who allegedly were ready to do anything to get rid of his sharp tongue) in 1 Ranavis 965.

History

Mr. Arashal was born the son of two journalists in 22 Mossenur 933 AC. He began a career of writing early on, but soon discovered his talent for Television and was promptly employed by ATMO, a second-rate media network in Ayrwll, as a talkshow host. Quickly growing famous for the barbed wit and bitter sarcasm that he displayed especially in the political area, his show won popularity until Arashal was eventually offered a more profitable position on ACNC as a news anchor, and his former show, while still remaining famous, lost a lot of its popularity after he left.

In 954, Arashal was voted into the High Council of Ayrwll as a Senator for the Province of Daranas. He held that position for ten years, until the appointment of Vanessa Siliagh as foreign minister left Ayrwll without a UN Ambassador. He accepted his nomination, and was appointed to the position with great majority within the Council.

Personality

Arashal calls himself a "moderate conservative", but that label is only in relation to fairly liberal Ayrwll. Even inside the UN, which are regularly denounced as a "commie infestation" by right-wing extremists, he is more at home on the progressive side of debates. His main focus is on the clash of society and religion. Himself an agnostic follower of the Thanaic Faith, the largest religious faith within Ayrwll, he considers himself an empiricist as well as a humanist, and does not believe religion should have no authority whatsoever in the arbitration of worldly conflicts. A firm believer in the separation of Church and State, his views have on occasion clashed with the more extreme Christians of Ayrwll.
