The Occupation of Torontia is a long-term military occupation by numerous powers, most notably Amestria, Saint Fedski, and Xirnium, with numerous allies in supporting roles.

Beginning

The occupation began when the Infinite Empire of Yallak fired missiles at the fascist New Order Republic of Torontia to punish Torontia for aiding Kraven and attacking Xirnium. The missile strike itself was aborted under international pressure, but President for Life Colonel Vader Tanakis and most of his government had already fled, leaving a nation in anarchy.

Initial Occupations

While Saint Fedski began to occupy eastern Torontia, Red Tide launched an attack and seized the easternmost part of Torontia as well as launching airstrikes on Fedski controlled Seattle. Tanakis, even though he had fled the country, continued making threats against all his enemies, promising the complete destruction of multiple countries. One of these nations, The Lone Alliance, replied with a declaration of full nuclear use against the nation of Torontia. Amestria halted the nuclear strikes from happening, and The Lone Alliance occupied Northern Torontia.

The western half of Torontia was occupied by the State of Amestria. Amestrian leaders began to rebuild the infrastructure of Western Torontia. When it was realized that The Lone Alliance had asked McKagan forces to aid them, both countries were ordered to cease the occupation of North Torontia. Red Tide was also forced to leave Torontia after a brief 24 hour war.

West Torontian Situation

When the Amestrians began to occupy northern Torontia they angered those in the area; as a result, insurgency actions began. The first attacks came from a previously hidden socialist faction known as the TSU (Torontian Socialist Union), and at the same time another group, the Torontian People's Liberation Army, or TPLA. (Despite the name, it was not a communist organization, but a fascist militia composed mostly of New Order soldiers and sympathizers.) The TSU and TPLA attacked the Amestrian military in BC, some hoping to drive them out and stop the reconstruction, which they saw as likely to draw hearts and minds to the Amestrians, others in order to overthrow the fledgling government and return Tanakis to power. In response the AOA and the TPG declared martial law, increased the number of troops, began an anti-insurgent campaign, and cut off the flow of information in and out of the area. The weaker TSU were unable to continue the battle, and upon surrender were granted amnesty by the leader in charge of the anti-insurgent campaign.

East Torontian Situation

The more conservative eastern half of Torontia was occupied by Saint Fedski. This occupation was far less orderly, as they had fewer troops, fewer resources, and were at first only in control of Seattle. The St. Fedskian government was able to set up the Torontian Interim Government in Seattle with little organized opposition, partly due to the fact that Saint Fedski did not have to deal with the Northern Torontian insurrection.

Bioweapon Attack

The TPLA in northwestern Torontia released a superflu, believed to be derived from an Otagian biological weapon. This virus killed more than 90% of its victims, and 40,000 to 50,000 Amestrians, Kahanistanians, Torontians, and others died of it. In response, the Amestrian military began a policy of summarily executing captured TPLA prisoners due to risks of infection, instituted a 24 hour curfew, and set up lethal quarantines.

Kahanistanian soldiers participated to some extent in the executions too, but in December 2005, a Kahanistanian sanitation specialist, 1LT Grant M. Foster, outraged by being forced to bury the bodies and suspicious of the cover stories given to him, gave information to the Xirniumite intelligence services.

Amestrian and St. Fedskian withdrawal

Foster's revelations triggered widespread protests in Kahanistan and forced the arrest of General Kalazanov as a war criminal. He was replaced by the controversial General Levitt, who had achieved notoriety for her conduct at Xigrat during the invasion of Xirnium. Amestria and St. Fedski withdrew, leaving the Amestrian-backed Torontian Provisional Government in control of Western Torontia and Xirnium in control of Eastern Torontia.

In Kahanistan, the protests were fueled by the right-wing General Abdullah Hassan al-Ghazi, author of the controversial and highly inflammatory tract On the Amestrians and their Lies. General al-Ghazi claimed that Amestria was an imperialist nation, and Kahanistan would be next after Torontia. The crowds swelled as he spoke, and when the Kahanistanian Presidential Guard commander, Maj. Mara Fulton, asked for help from a nearby military base to deal with the throngs of millions, al-Ghazi disappeared into the crowd, fired his pistol, and caused the angry crowd to riot, burning, raping, looting, and killing thousands of Amestrians and Kahanistanians believed to be Amestrian. Millions were injured, and property damage is estimated in the hundreds of billions.

General al-Ghazi vanished after holding a press conference regarding his right-wing beliefs and anti-Amestrian sentiment, having been removed from the Imperial Marines.

Constitutional Convention

The Amestrians, Kahanistanians, Torontians, and Xirniumites came to an agreement over the future status of Torontia. During the convention, the Amestrian Vice Minister of Defense, Sara Liscel and the Xirniumite Foreign Minister, Heather Gilda, agreed on a general framework of the Torontian constitution, basing it loosely upon Xirniumite common law.
