The Oglethorpian Defense Bureau -- known simply as the Defense Bureau -- is one of the three primary Executive Bureaus forming the cabinet of the Executive Office of the Bureaucratic States of Oglethorpia. As the name suggests, the Defense Bureau's primary purpose is to maintain Oglethorpia's defensive capability.

More specifically, the Defense Bureau is responsible for directing and managing the Bureaucratic States Aggregated Armed Forces. The Defense Bureau is based in The Myriagon, located in the heart of Megalopolis City some two miles away from the Whetsham River. The Defense Bureau is headed by the Defense Bureau Chief, Terrence T. Estes.

Brief history

After the creation of the Aggregated Army in X576 it became apparent that the Foreign Relations Bureau could not handle both the duties of the military and the tasks of international relations, both logistically and physically. In X582 the Defense Bureau was created, alleviating the workload of the Foreign Relations Bureau as well as freeing up much needed office space.

The Defense Bureau made use of temporary offices for nine years until the completion of The Myriagon in X591, which remains home to the department to this day. While the structure appears to be a circle from the air, it is actually composed of 10,000 sides giving the illusion of a circle. Up close, however, the structure looks decidedly angular.

The Defense Bureau is the umbrella under which the Aggregated Armed Forces and the various intelligence interest organizations of the country reside under. The Defense Bureau directs the actions of organizations such as the Strategic International Intelligence Department (SIID) in addition to all the actions of the Aggregated Armed Forces during times of peace.

The department recieves 3% of the government's budget; 85% of this goes directly to the armed forces, the remaining 15% spent on the administration costs associated with the Defense Bureau's immense task.
