The Olympic Council currently consists in seventy-four member nations and four associate members. Any national Olympic Committee which requests to take part in an Olympiad is invited to join the Council.

Council members vote to award the Games to a chosen host city, selecting the latter from a list narrowed down by the Olympic Upper Council. The Olympic Council also discusses general rules pertaining to the smooth running of the Games.
