Overview

The Olympus Corporation (PSE: OLYM) is Punjabea's foremost manufacturer of intergalactic spacecraft. It was created by a group of investors, with assistance from the Punjabean government, after Punjabea relocated to the Axis of Absurdity in May 2006. It was set up in response to the new technology gained from Audio Assault.

Company details and structure

Olympus Corp. is a private limited company and is listed on the Punjabean Stock Exchange. Latest share prices are at 315 FP (June 2006) (1 Federal Peso = 1.15 USD). The company's high share prices, excellent turnover and record profit are due to the major boom in space investment. This is largely caused by the Punjabean Space Elevator, which has cut space transportation costs by approximately 80%. The company's current CEO is Mark Pheldar. The corporation employs 10,000 people and is Punjabea's second biggest employer, behind Punjabcomp, the computer manufacturer.

Products

Upon the establishment of Olympus Corp, the company bought the rights to all of the Punjabean governments' spacecraft. Prior to Olympus Corp, all spacecraft were manufactured by the government due to the prohibitive costs. With the purchase of 50 engineers from Audio Assault's Galactica Corporation, all the government's craft (designated the Alpha class) were rendered obsolete. The company then established the Beta class, comprising the craft built with the Galactica Corp's warp technologies. At present, there are three classes: Alpha, Beta & Gamma. The Alpha class comprises the ships built prior to the setup of Olympus Corp and is now discontinued, the Beta class comprises all craft that utilise normal warp propulsion and the Gamma class comprises all craft with Dark Warp capabilities. Craft with Dark Warp systems are limited due to the large amount of energy involved in dark warp travel and the uncertainty surrounding its safety.

Catalogue Notes:

• The Hermes Mark III was the first Beta class craft built with the new technologies learned from Galactica Industries.
• The Haphaestus Mark V-X was developed from the Galactica 4000X-3 obtained from the Audio Assault engineering company Galactica Industries. The -X suffix on the name of a ship denotes that it was built using technology from another company's craft.
• The Hephaestus Mark I & II, the Ares Mark I & II and the Erebus Mark I & II are not listed in the catalogue. This is because these craft never saw active service. They were strictly governmental prototypes and were infamously beset by disaster. The initial testing of the Hephaestus Mark I caused a fire that destroyed the entire research compound and the testing of the Erebus Mark II caused the deaths of so many chimpanzees that the PSPCA were called in to investigate.
• The Ares Miltary ship was bought from the Punjabean government but never developed. Hence it is the only ship that did not progress to the Beta class. The reasons for the lack of development were believed to be due to the ships' poor design. The Artemis fighter craft was created as a replacement.
• With the introduction of the dark warp drive in the Gamma class, the concept of maximum warp speeds has become more complicated. For Gamma class ships, the maximum regular warp speed is listed along with the "Dark Warp Lag". This is the amount of time taken for the ship to travel from one point in the Universe to another with its dark-warp drive. The Olympus Corp's engineers are striving to get this as close as possible to the Planck time. For all ships, read "Max. Regular Warp Speed" for "Max. Warp Speed".

Awards & Accolades

Olympus Corp won the 2006 New Technology Company of the Year award, presented by the Axis of Absurdity Commerce Group. This was in view of its record turnaround from the dismal state of the governments' spacecraft company and its excellent innovation. It also won the Engineers' Association of Punjabea's award for its development of the Hermes Mark IV. This was because the Hermes Mark IV broke world records by attaining Warp 91.
