General Information

Overview

The Omeldor-1 is a massive artificial planetoid, known also as a World Station. It was constructed by the members of the Sisgardian Fellowship of Nations, in a project that took several decades to be completed. With the supporting -both in construction and resources- of the Federal Business Combine, the Omeldor-1 was constructed slowly but steadily and securely, every part of the general process fully overseen. The site used to build the Omeldor-1 was the Barbag Asteroid Field, part of the outer of the Kuiper Belt. It's final destination will be located after the inner rim of the belt. The Omeldor-1 is intended to become a hub for many nations to interact in a true space crucible. Similar to what Babylon 5 was, the Omeldor-1 seeks to offer a middleground for people of a myriad origins, a place for commerce and social interaction.

General Specifications

The Omeldor-1 is a spherical artificial planetoid. It's main bulk has a diameter of 1,000 kilometers (621 miles). Placed in statical orbit around it lie 38 satellites called Utility Moons and Battle Moons. Each one is a spherical station with a 5 kilometer (3 mile) diameter, capable of self movement, although they remain on their assigned locations most of the time. More details on the Moons below. A maximum amount of 10,000,000,000 inhabitants can be allocated inside the station (it would be theoretically possible to allocate more people, at the expenses of life quality), scattered among the Domes. There is a total of 785 domes placed around the Omeldor-1's surface, each one having capacity for over 12.000.000 inhabitants. Further details on the Domes below. The Omeldor-1 is fully self-sufficient in every aspect, from food growth to power generation and waste disposal. The world station, when fully functional, requires a crew of 100.000.000, in order to be controlled, protected and maintained. The crew will be mostly extracted from the station's own population, although there is a basic crew of 4.000.000 individuals, who are in control of the Moons and some of the basic functions of the Omeldor-1, sent before the migration began, and in charge of preparing the station for the arrivals. The actual crew will grow along with the population number (1% of the population will be hired as crew members).

Aspects of the Omeldor-1

The Moons

The Omeldor-1 features an innovative way for defense and various utilities, by using the so called Utility and Battle Moons. Each moon is a spherical satellite, with a diameter of 5 kilometers (3 miles) orbiting statically at a distance of 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the station's surface. Although statical, these moons have the capacity to move on their own and adjust their location and distance from the Omeldor-1. They are even capable of traveling far away from the station, although their slow speed and lack of self-supporting on various basic needs makes them vulnerable away from the Omeldor-1. There is a total of 38 moons orbiting the world station, all fully maintained by their own crews. Each moon requires between 50,000 and 100,000 crew members, depending on their uses, either as military or utilitarian moons. The moons are equally scattered around the Omeldor-1, so each covers the needs of a particular section. Moons are grouped in three main sections divided in three sub-sections: Northern Hemisphere 1, Northern Hemisphere 2, Northern Hemisphere 3, Southern Hemisphere 1, Southern Hemisphere 2, Southern Hemisphere 3 and Belt. Northern Hemisphere 1 corresponds to the moons located around the northern pole, while Norther Hemisphere 2 and 3 represent the moons located closer to the station's equator. Southern Hemisphere 1 corresponds to the moons located around the southern pole, while Southern Hemisphere 2 and 3 represent the moons located closer to the equator. Belt corresponds to the moons located around the station's equator. Each sub-section is effectively a ring of moons that surround a specific latitude of the planetoid. On each sub-section, there is an equal amount of Utility and Battle moons. The only exception are the polar moons, which are both Battle Moons.

Utility Moons, as their name implies, offer various utilitarian services, such as docking areas, ship construction and repair, passenger arrivals and departures, cargo bays, communication relays and more. There is space for very large ships to dock, although some of the most massive behemoths of space may need to dock on a space buoy and be attended via shuttles. Each Utility Moon has 10 working shuttles at all times, with capacity for up to 1,000 passenger, plus 5 cargo shuttles, with capacity for up to 2,000 cubic meters (12,000 cubic feet) worth of cargo. There is also one repair ship at each Utility Moon.

Battle Moons, on the other hand, act as defense units for the Omeldor-1. They hold a vast array of weaponry, both long and short ranged, fighter and bomber ships, minelayers, communication interceptors and jammer devices, shield generators and detention facilities, among other things.

The Domes

The surface of the Omeldor-1 is covered by Domes. These are the places where the population of the world station live. Each dome is a conical space that bores from the station's surface toward it's interior, with a height of 600 meters (1,900 feet) and a width of 51 kilometers (32 miles). It is covered by a large cupola of translucent luminium, that grants a perfect look of the stars while offering protection. The interior of the dome is open, and ends in a large, 50 kilometer (30 mile) wide circular area of parkland, circled by 12 levels. Each level is 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) wide and 50 meters (160 feet) tall, and offers living space for up to 1,000,000 inhabitants, making the total population for each dome of 12,000,000 inhabitants. The parkland inside the dome can be terraformed in almost any imaginable way, from deep forests to tropical jungles, from barren hills to emerald plains, fitting the needs and desires of the population inside each dome. The climate can also be adjusted, raising or lowering temperatures, and generating artificial rain, snow or wind. This, summed to the ability to change the composition of the dome's atmosphere, allows for any environment to be reproduced, granting a place for every kind of inhabitants. There is a total of 785 domes scattered in order around the Omeldor-1's surface, and they all have facilities to cover all their needs, such as waste disposal, power generation, security, medical care, transportation and the like. The domes are interconnected by a vast network of maglev trains, that allow fast movement inside the world station.
