The term organic can be used to refer to any sentient species that is not mechanoid and lives via standard biological processes. The majority of sentient species are organic, such as baseline humans, posthumans, non-humans, Elves, Kzin, Sakkrans, and so forth.

Many organic cultures tend to distrust mechanoids because of popular science fiction where "artificial" life overthrows "natural" life; the resulting bias of these cultures against mechanoids results in a counter-distrust in mechanoids towards organics. This is not necessarily true, but it is more common than mutual trust and understanding.

It should be noted that the word organic is not always used in the context of categorizing sentient species. The word can also refer to anything pertaining to or derived from an organ, any substance relying heavily on carbon compounds, any natural product of a living thing, a type of food grown without the aid of artificial chemicals, or simply any standard biological lifeform, sentient or otherwise.
