Orion

Overview

Orion was an asteroid in a high Martian orbit, 150,000km above the planet. It was placed in the orbit by New Haven, and was used as a military base by the nation. Because of it's size, defensability, and strategic location, Orion was New Haven's largest military/shipyard installation and orbital colony in Sol, up until its disabling and subsequent capture by Kajali and Osage forces.

Orion was accompanied in it's orbit by Bryn Shander's asteroid base Mathilde at it's L3 point, though The Osage have since moved the asteroid.

Trade

In addition to being a military hub, Orion would have been New Haven's primary economic hub in the Mars system, with a projected 75% of the nation's Martian trade passing through the asteroid after construction was complete.

Shipyards

Orion had the largest New Haven Shipyard in the Sol System, capable of refueling/repairing/rearming an entire fleet in under five days depending on conditions. It was able to readily produce fighters, corvettes and frigates, as well as larger vessels when required.

Military

Because of the proposed internal population and strategic importance to New Haven, it was the official home of the 1st and 2nd Task Forces and its headquarters (Otherwise known as the 'Orion Task Forces'). The asteroid was armed with several turreted Phased Cannon Array, point-defense guns, and several turreted superdreadnaught kinetic guns. The shipyard also acted as an arsenal for potential New Haven conflicts within Sol, so 10% of its storage capacity was permanently under the control of the military.
