The PHX Phoenix III is the third ship of The Phoenix Milita to bear the name Phoenix, and is the fourth vessel to fly the flag of the Navy. It is a completely new, one of a kind specially made custom naval vessel. It was designed to provide an entire carrier battle group's air power, while being as heavily armed as 4 multi-role destroyers. A unique 5-hulled design, designated the Pentamaran, was the inspiration behind the Phoenix's conception. Only three Pentamaran hulls were ever built. The first was for the Phoenix III, and the other two were supposed to be built as warships of the same type, but were canceled mid-construction to free funds for the Bluewater Combatant Fleet project. The two remaining hulls served as the basis for the two massive cruise ships of Phoenix Cruise Lines; the Veronica and the Victoria.
