Parliament of Oceania

The Parliament of the United Kingdom of Azazia, Juristan, Kingsland, and the Indian Islands acts as the ultimate legislative body within the United Kingdom, the Royal Crown Colonies, and all overseas dependencies, territories, and commonwealths as the sovereign parliament. Theoretically, absolute power remains vested in the Sovereign who rules as King-in-Parliament – although contemporary scholars and political theorists note that power is actually wielded by Parliament, and more often than not the House of Commons, one of the two houses in the bicameral legislative body. Although not strictly required to meet within certain geographic bounds, Parliament traditionally meets in the Parliament House in Imperium, New Britain.

The current form of Parliament and the government of the UK has descended from its forebearer, that of Great Britain and the Westminster system and is not itself a novel form of government. Also stemming from its ancestral legislature, Parliament has witnessed the gradual loss of power of the House of Lords to the House of Commons. Recently, however, the Office of Prime Minister was awarded to Alistair Tetley, 1st Marquess of Salisbury who sits in the House of Lords with serious opposition from his own party of that of the opposition.

Under the current constitutional conventions and statutes, Parliament consists of two separate bodies: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The House of Lords, formally styled as The Right Honourable The Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament Assembled, is the upper house and remains largely an unelected institution that draws it members from the nobility and peers of the UK. Since independence was granted by Britain before the removal of all powers of its House of Lords, the House of Lords that sits in Imperium does maintain more substantial powers – although with the recent exception of the Prime Minister those powers have been on the wane.
