Past Currencies of Athens and Midlands
Below is a summary of past curencies no longer in circulation. Currently the Athenian Drachma is the official Currency of the Athenian Republic of Athens and Midlands.
The Midlands Aber
Replaced in December 2005 by the Athenian Drachma.
Introduced in 1960 upon the foundation of the state. Extended to Athens in 1982 to replace the Athenian Lirasi.
Denominations (at withdrawal):
- Coins: 1 2 5 10 25 and 50 lari; 1 2 and 5 aber
- Notes: 10 20 50 100 and 500 aber
Fixed redemption rate
- 1 drachma = 3.5 aber
The Athens Koupon
Replaced in December 2005 by the Athenian Drachma.
Introduced in 1982 upon the withdrawal of the lirasi but not officially recognised until June 2004.
Denominations (at withdrawal):
- Coins: 20 and 50 cent; 1 2 5 10 20 50 100 200 500 1,000 and 5,000 Koupon
- Notes: 10,000 25,000 50,000 100,000 and 200,000 Koupon
Fixed redemption rate
- 1 drachma = 500 Koupon
The Athens Lirasi
Replaced in February 1982 by the Midlands Aber.
Introduced in 1951 upon the foundation of the state. replaced due to serious inflation
Denominations (at withdrawal):
- Coins: 50,000 100,000 200,000 500,000 1 million, 2 million, 5 million and 10 million lirasi
- Notes: 10 million, 25 million, 50 million, 100 million, and 200 million lirasi
Fixed redemption rate
- 1 drachma = 10,000,000 lirasi
