Pastocia History

The States of Blackadderia

For centuries before it's discovery by explorers, Pastocia was a confederation of small city-states, known as the region of "Blackadderia". The states were in an almost constant state of war against each other, and it were two of those states, Austria-Hungary which joined together and conquered the rest of the smaller nations, forming the powerful Austro-Hungarian Empire.

The Austrian Empire

In the year 1771, the states of Blackadderia were unified under a single ruler, the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, a state in the south-east with the small city of Vienna as it's Capital. The Austrians became known worldwide as having one of the most power armies of footsoldiers in PEEL, and were fanatical supporters of the Church of the Archangel. This fanaticism caused the nation to constantly invade it's neighbors on the grounds of "Conversion" of their fellow PEELians.

The Austrian Empire was ruled by a series of tyrannical Emperors, all of the Mktaisan Dynasty, the ruling class of the Austrians for generations. They were an offshoot of the Imperial Slimmoleon Royal Line, and had close ties with the other royal regimes of the region (as long as they followed the Church of the Archangel).

You Say You Want a Revolution?

By the early 2000's, after almost two centuries of absolute rule under the Mktaisans, the people of Austria begn spreading the word of a people's revolution to overthrow the Emperor. For years, millions of peasants had lived in total poverty with no educational or healthcare benefits whatsoever. Fed up with the living conditions of the nation, many turned to the underground Communist Party, then a small guerilla army hiding in the northern forests, led by Comandante Nasty Pasty and Sub-Comandante Whoopwhoopwhoop. The Austrian Communists were fighting an uphill war against the the powerful Royal Army for the establishment of a new government, founded on the beliefs of Communism and Socialism and led by the people for the betterment of the entire nation.

For decades, they fought the Austrian Army, but with the huge influx of over 800 Thousand recruits and growing hatred towards Emperor Mktaisan VII, the Communist Army were able to score a string of victories, most notably at the cities of Lecapeni and Mexica-Prime. With support of the Emperor falling, many Royal Army battalions threw down their weapons and surrendered to the Communists, and many even joined the revolutionaries.

In late 2050, the full force of the Revolutionary Communist Army had gathered for a final assault on the Royalist forces at the Emperor's last stronghold, the Austrian Capital of Vienna. For weeks, the communists pushed back the royal armies until it was revealed that the Emperor has been killed when a section of the palace had collapsed from mortar fire. Soon after, the army surrendered, and the Emperor's family had fled the nation.

Post-Revolution

By the early months of 2051, the Communist Party had total control of the Austrian territory. It was decided that with the new regime came a new identity for their beloved land, Pastocia. And within weeks of the official founding of the "People's Republic of Pastocia" a body of representatives were elected in the first nationwide elections, and soon afterward, the Senate named their First Consul, former head of the Revolutionary Communist Army, Nasty Pasty.

First Consul Pasty set about rebuilding Pastocia after the long revolution. He created a national healthcare system, which provided every citizen in the nation with free and excellent healthcare. Next, he established the first nationwide school board. For the first time in their history, children aged 3 to 23 could attend excellent schools, and for free. The rebuilding process was not all well-received though. With the new Socialist government came the outlawing of private industry and the nationalization of all profits earned by workers. Because of this, many foreign and domestic corporations left Pastocia, almost crippling it's economy in the process.

In response, Pastocia turned to diplomacy as an answer. In his first half year in office, First Consul Pasty formed treaties with over a dozen nations, including securing membership in COMECON, the most powerful alliance of communist and socialist nations in the world. Also, Pastocia aquired it's first warm water port when MDKCorp gave the island of Nerdor to Pastocia in exchange of uranium mining rights in the mainland.

A Growing Power

With the nation safely secured as a member of COMECON, the Pastocian Government sought to make Pastocia into one of the rising world powers. The Colony of Nova Pastocia was established on the former site of New Ivorila, and began it's life as a first line of defense against a Urallian invasion.

In conjunction with the COMECON Weapons Lease Act, the Imperial army, navy, and airforce of Pastocia were created. Satisfied for the time being with the aircraft and army equipment given by Nurdbotia, the Imperial Senate decided to devote the majority of it's military budget to the creation of an advanced and powerful naval force, which would become known as "The Imperial Pastocian Navy". Within months, construction of over 2 dozen ships had begun in the naval yards of Aquaria, and one of the fruits of their labor was the creation of the "Imperator-Class Super Battleship", the largest and most powerful battleships in PEEL.

The creation of the new armed forces began to give the Pastocian Government more leverage with the PEEL Political Arena, and Consul Pasty spearheaded the creation of a new Communist treaty, The Greater Pastocian Socialist Alliance, which was to become a close-knit alliance of Pastocia, her colonies, and her closest allies (Yugopatomia, Bamonia, and The Sunrise Forces). But when the new alliance began drawing major disaproval from Pastocia's international rivals and her allies in COMECON, the GPSA was quickly disbanded.

At the same time the GPSA was disbanded, First Consul Nasty Pasty resigned from his position as head of the Imperial Senate after a kidnapping ordeal in the Sunset Empire. His replacement was his older cousin, Pastus Wilhelm who became Second Consul.

Consul Wilhelm's major activities in office were mainly based around making Pastocia a more centrist nation, moving away from the Far-Left revolutionary standings of his cousin. Only 2 months after taking office, Wilhelm passed a new Senate law which allowed for the establishment of a partial free market economy and the downsizing of the nation's heavy nationalization tariffs. Foreign companies began flowing back into Pastocia, which boosted the poor economy to unseen heights. In addition, Pastocia also took part in the first PEELympics, a sporting event in which all nations of PEEL came together peacefully to compete in athletic games.

The Dominion Wars

Only months after Second Consul Wilhelm took power, Pastocia's closest ally, Yugopatomia declared war on Anubinia and The Holy Dominion after it was revealed that Anubinia had launched a devestating EMP attack on Yugograd. Within days, Pastocia and the rest of COMECON were drawn into the war, which centered on removing the tyrannical Anubinian leader, Supreme Pharaoh Set from power. Pastocia was drafted into The Coalition, a temporary alliance created to combat the Dominion.

Pastocia took part in "Operation Atlantis", a naval assault on the Anubinian port of Heliopolis, but was forced to recall it's troops after Nova Pastocia was conquered by New Star Warsia and mainland Pastocia was being invaded by troops of The Obsidian Order and Terre Argente. The Dominion nations quickly conquered large chunks of land, but were finally pushed back at the gates of the Capital of Pastantinople after a horrfic 3-week seige.

In the closing months of the war, the Pastocian Government authorized the expansion of the Imperial Navy, and dozens of new ships were created and took part in the liberation of Dominion-controlled Nova Pastocia and Yugopatomia.

After the Dominion Wars

After a formal peace treaty had been signed by Dominion and Coalition leaders, Pastocia concentrated it's efforts on the reconstruction process. This almost sparked another bloody war, as Second Consul Wilhelm threatened to invade the Obsidian Order if they did not pay reparations. This, coupled with his increasingly paranoid behavior caused the Imperial Senate to remove him from his position and appointed Matthew Gregory as Third Consul.

During his first term, Gregory was a strong supporter of continued military development and expansion, and during this time, the Imperial Navy grew tremendously in size and power, incorporating many technologies salvaged from the ruins of the Holy Dominion in the post-war years. It was also at this time that the concept of the "The Cosmonautical Cooperation of the Continents of PEEL" or CCCP Treaty was put forward to combat the growing Urallian domination of space with their advanced fleet. Pastocia became an administrating member and is currently contributing to the alliance to develop new spacecraft, and at the same time lobbying the official acceptance of the treaty from The DROOP.

At the same time, Foreign Minister Nasty Pasty embarked on a long diplomatic trip around the region of PEEL, visiting over a dozen nations and strengthing relations with new and old friends while at the same time gathering support for the CCCP, The PAFEA educational treaty, and working to clean up COMECON's image across the region, which at the time was becoming a hated organization in many capitalist nations. The trip had to be stopped half way during the crisis with the Obsidian Order in mid 2053, but continued after the threat of a resurgence in war had faded.

Regional Hatred

In the years following the devestating Dominion Wars, the PEEL Region slipped farther and farther into disunity as the gap between Communist and Capitalist nations grew. And as the divisions grew deeper, Pastocia became caught in the middle and was faced with the decision to remain loyal to her COMECON allies or to preserve the unity and peace within the region.

The trouble started on January 4th, 2054 when a Coalition convoy carrying the Anubinian Nuclear stockpile left over from the Dominion Wars to the DROOP HQ was ambushed by a Urallian Naval Fleet and the weapons were stolen. In the hours following the attack, Pastocia, Zedoljev, MDKCorp, and many others mobilized their armed forces in preparation to strike and take back the weapons before they reached Urallian territory. But they soon encountered severe opposition from Teral and leading members of the MuDeAl alliance who even when faced with nuclear annihlation, spoke out against the use of military force. Tied up in diplomatic dispute, the nations of PEEL simply watched as the Urallian ships sailed away untouched back to the homeland.

After months of an uneasy peace, it was broken by a speech in early 2055 made by Yugopatomia's outspoken Premier, Whoopwhoopwhoop. In it, he criticized the apathy and prejudice within MuDeAl and it's leading countries, mostly pertaining to the Dominion War and the Urallian Weapon hijacking a year earlier. Early on, it quickly gained support from Bamonia, Zedoljev, and Nurdbotia, and many within the Pastocian government called for it's own support. But due to the growingly centrist policies within the country, the government remained neutral on the subject, and as public outcry against communism in PEEL grew tremendously. Violence in Teral soon erupted as anti-COMECON protestors stormed the Zedoljan embassy and staged massive protests outside other socialist country's embassies. Despite this, Pastocia was left mostly untouched and desperately tried to maintain the peace between Teral and Zedoljev, who repeatedly almost came to blows.

In the midst of all the regional in-fighting, Pastocia began to take over more and more adminstrative duties from it's old ally, Nurdbotia within the COMECON. It was only two years earlier that Pastocia was granted the position after Ivorila left the alliance, and by 2056, many criticized Nurdbotia for it's sluggish responses, corrupt government, and stubborness. Pastocia presented the alliance with a new lease on life. Early in the year, the region was kit by a crippling lugnut shortage which caused many robots around PEEL to rebel and chaos overtook Nurdbotia and it's puppet nations around the region. In it's growing apathy, the government under Chairman Uchinov barely responded to the growing dissent within the robot ranks and it was overthrown by a Extremist Robot Group, The Chrome Hand. A civil war soon followed, Pastocia and a number of other COMECON nations removed Nurdbotia from it's position as leader, making Pastocia the sole administrator of the treaty. Immediately after taking the position, Pastocia and COMECON secured a treaty with the United Space Conglomerate to use their mining vessels to secure enough precious tritanium to solve the lugnut shortage.

Despite the problems growing within the region, Pastocia managed to maintain order within the alliance and peace with it's democratic neighbors. During this period, the country continued to become a larger part in the PEEL region. As new COMECON administrator, the Pastocian Government spearheaded many new efforts including medical aid for Anubinia and other Western Spur nations during the Necrobia Epidemic, the revival of the collapsed nation, The Sunrise Forces and it's reinstatement into COMECON, and even hosted the 2056 Summer PEELympics in the Capital of Pastantinople. The nation also physically grew in size to incorporate it's collapsed neighbors, The Sunset Forces and Robonia.
