Economy

  • Fishing - An industry as old as the city itself, large hauls of Atlantic cod, haddock, shrimp and lobster are still landed in significant numbers, but falling fishing stocks are beginning to have an impact on the large commercial operations.
  • Forestry - A relatively minor industry but nonetheless an important employer. Harvesting the temperate coniferous forests to the West of the city, the industry is hampered somewhat by the expansive size of the local wildlife reserve.
  • Shipbuilding - Large-scale ship building is all but gone from the city, however, many big yards still remain in operation servicing the large merchantmen and tankers that visit the city. A industry dedicated to the production of small leisure craft and fishing boats ensures that some shipbuilding still takes place within the city.
  • Trade & International Finance - Pebble Landing's excellent position on the Northern coast, along with the great size of the city ensure a significant amount of international shipments pass through the city. Pebble Landing is often used by many shipping firms as a cheaper second port to service Navarre given the latter's higher harbour duties. Several international banking institutions also call the city home.
  • Tourism - a large and growing service industry catering to a wide variety of tastes. Close enough for weekend trippers from Navarre, the city boasts a large historical and cultural heritage and its closeness to both the sun drenched beaches of the Delai Peninsula, the beautiful Pebble Landing Wildlife Reserve and its position at the Eastern end of the Forest of the Lakes ensures a wide variety of new activities even for regular visitors. The excellent surf conditions of Pebble Cove ensure an extremely well developed maritime sports industry.

Geography
