Pilon’s main goals regarding foreign policy are to protect its interests, both foreign and domestic from interference by other nations and to allow for the beneficial interaction of its citizens with the citizens of other nations, to promote freedom of sentient beings and allow them to pursue their dreams, and to further free trade between Pilon and its allies and trade partners.

Though Pilon has gone through a cycle between and isolationist policy to an active international policy, there are several key issues on which Pilon has never wavered. These issues are the taking in of refugees from nations in need, an aggressive anti-slavery stance, and an anti-imperialist stance.

Throughout the years since Pilon first became a stable nation they have always welcomed refugees from nations that Pilon is not on hostile terms with. It is because of this policy that Pilon has such a diverse population and culture. It is the belief of Pilon that each view should be cherished, even if you disagree with the view and that the view should be allowed to exist, though occasionally vigorously resisted, and never quieted. The belief that various views have their unique strengths and can help in situations where one single belief may have flaws is the basis for this policy and has served Pilon well in the past. Only in cases where it is known that taking in refugees will be detrimental to Pilonese society will they resist such efforts.

Pilon’s anti-slavery policy comes from a passed down belief that freedom is a value to be cherished. The Pilonese people themselves are the descendants of slaves so though the current generations have never experienced slavery tales are still told of many of the abuses of such systems and Pilon reacts very negatively to news of a populace’s enslavement. Pilon has been known in the past to finance terrorist and revolutionary factions within governments who harbor slaves in the hopes of overthrowing the governments of such nations and free the people. They also finance rescue missions to rescue enslaved populations from captivity and deliver them to Pilon or other nations in which the slaves wish to live.

As Pilon valued the sound of many voices over a few they are opposed to single nations controlling large tracts of land, especially if they lack the population to control the land. They see this as both a greedy act and also as a form of Imperialism. Pilon is overtly hostile politically to nations who it sees as imperialist and has been known to oppose actions of those nations for no other reason then that the nation in question is Imperialist. They have also gone to war several times over land disputes with Imperialist nations. Pilon has a tendency to support smaller nation’s land claims unless they have good reason not to and will also support such nations in their attempts to join alliances Pilon is a part of unless given a good reason not to.

In the several millennia that Pilon has existed as a nation they have only participated in 3 wars and had a single civil war. This is a relatively low number compared to other nations and Pilon takes pride in the fact that they have avoided going to war over petty reasons and tries to resolve issues diplomatically whenever possible, only going to war when they absolutely have to. This often involves invading forces into territories Pilon has settled and currently Pilon is considering declaring an a state of war against the invading Tyranids of Mars and also to stop the hostile actions of the Ry’leh, though both are in debate currently in the Assembly and no clear decision has yet been reached regarding these matters.
