Plains of Turaida

The large field known as the Plains of Turaida was the site of the decisive battle between the young warrior queen, Hildegaard, and the chief challengers to her rule - the Baron of Turaida and her cousin Gustavus - in 1677. Leading her army in battle, Queen Hildegaard personally slew Baron Turaida and the pretender Gustavus.

At the recommendation of her husband and Captain of the Army, Lord Dzirdis, Hildegaard converted Baron Turaida's castle - which was heavily damaged in the battle - into a royal prison. The prison served as memorial to the warrior queen's victory and a visible threat to any barons who would defy the Sword.

Today, the battle field is a National Park and Historical Monument administered by the Imperial Parks Service. The castle, however, remains one of the Holy Empire of Excalbia's most feared prisons.
