The politics of Iriyan Jaya are based upon a presidential federation with a history of a feudal monarchy. Its system of government, representational democracy, is unique among nations in the Broad Ocean.

The Constitution is invested in a set of Basic Laws, as it is felt that a single constitution would take too much of a step towards a single state. Other governmental documents are incorporated as part of the Basic Law.

Executive Branch

The executive powers are invested in the President of Iriyan Jaya. The President is indirectly elected by virtue of being the leader of the governing party or coalition. The President's responsibilities include:

  • Signing bills into law
  • Accepting accreditations of foreign diplomats
  • Retaining a Government, or dissolving the Grand Council for new elections
  • Setting Government policy

The President also uses the bully pulpit to advocate for her, and therefore the Government's, positions.

The current President of Iriyan Jaya is Harry Senate.

Legislative

The legislature of Iriyan Jaya is the Grand Council of the Island. It is divided into two houses, the House of Governors and the House of Senators.
