The PopularFreedom Highway System (PHS) are a network of controlled-access freeways throughout the nation of PopularFreedom, forming a special subset of the national highway system. Modern PHS highways have high design standards by PopularFreedom standards, speed limits of 100 km/h (62.5 mph), and various collision avoidance and traffic management systems.

For their entire length, the PHS highways are intended to be completely controlled-access and divided, with a minimum of 4 lanes.

The nation also maintains freeways which are up to PHS series standards, yet are not numbered as part of the PHS series network. This is despite some of those freeways exceeding existing PHS series highways in size and traffic volume and despite some of them being connected to the PHS series network.

The nation's baseline standard for the designation of a highway as apart of the PHS series is an average traffic count of 10,000 vehicles per day.

Standards for PHS Series Highways

  • At least 2 lanes in each direction.
  • Opposing direction is to be separated by grass median or concrete barrier.
  • 100% grade separated crossings
  • A design speed of at least 130 km/h (80 mph), although the posted speed on signs is 100 km/h - exceptions can be made for urban areas where a 130 km/h design speed cannot be realistically implemented.
  • Advanced warning signage for junctions at 2 km (1.2 miles), 1 km (0.6 miles) and 500m (1650 ft) before the junction
  • Right-hand side on-ramps and off-ramps
  • Standard PHS series highway signage, uniform across the entire system.
  • Standard directional signage is white-on-green, with collector lanes using white-on-blue to distinguish between mainline and collector signage.
  • Future toll roads will have white-on-blue signage.
  • Service/attraction signage is white-on-blue.
  • Caution signage is black-on-yellow.
  • Construction (temporary conditions) signage is black-on-orange

List of PHS Series highways

There are numerous different PHS series highways creating a transportation backbone across the entire nation especially in the urban areas. Plans are currently underway to extend the existing network as well as add new routes into the system.
