The Republic of Port Vice: BACKGROUND

The Republic of Port Vice was established in the late 1800's as the City of Port Vice, when Port Vice was apart of the United States of Columbria. From the 1980's onward, the situation began to change as capital began to leave the city and as bad mis-management led to high price hikes on everything that entered Port Vice from overseas. In 1992, the Vicenese economy collapsed, leaving the city deprived of wealth and lacking in services. People began to demand that Port Vice secede from the USC because staying apart of it would ruin the chances for economic recovery; thus leading to the birth of the Port Vice independence movement or PVIM. PVIM managed to get a new mayor elected in 1993 and pushed through the passing of the law which caused Port Vice to become a independent nation from rest of Columbria in July 1994. In the years after that, the economy began to recover from foreign investment, tourism revenues, and revenues from re-processing activities via the new oil refinery.Today, it's economy upturn has caused the City to regain economic stability.
