Capital City of Vrancian Sozy

History

Ethnic Vrancians were the first to settle along the Southern coast of the [Sozian island]. They were mainly fishers and peasants. Various of settlements were built along the coastline, and due to the vast amount of natural resources like fish and Mediterranean wood, the settlements grew exponentially. For centuries it was the centre of Vrancian power, until it was sacked in 465 AD. The city's wall was used for building and the city lost its strength during the Sozian dark ages during which it was invaded and sacked on numerous of occasions. It did gain strength as the largest fishing city later on, but lost its sphere of influence over the Vrancian countryside during the L’ìghübirghum wars of succession. Under the command of L’ìghübirghum leaders, the city lost most of its privileges. Only in the late 20th century the city could grew again, due to the increasing interest of tourists in luxury beach resorts, nowadays, Porti Viagnèt is the second largest fishing centre in the nation, it has the second largest yacht harbour in the nation and a booming tourist industry.

Vrancian Empire

The Vrancians referred to this area as Iren Vrancij or "villages of the Vrancians". In 1003BC it became known as a major centre of trade and worship throughout the Vrancian and Sozian world. In 753BC the City was walled, this marked the beginning of the Vrancian Dynasty. Until the fall of the Empire, it remained a centre of Vrancian culture, trade and power.

Geography

The city is enclosed by the sea in the South, sub-tropical forests in the East and West and Hills in the North. There is barely any rainfall in the city, and much of its growth is thanks to irrigation. The boulevard, which is the largest and longest (80 kilometres) in Sozy, is dominated by both ice cream stands and a white palm beach.

Ropica Beach

A magical beach, famous for its "secret beaches" (beaches surrounded by hills and forests) and kilometres of white sand. In the winter, this is the breeding place of turtles. In the summer, this is a place of party, beach fun, sports activities and yacht racing.

Economy

Historically, the city relied upon fishing and trade. But it also has a manufacturing industries, a huge service sector and an even larger tourist sector. Yet, economic growth did not endanger the environment: Porti Viagnèt is one of the greenest cities in Sozy. The city has always been a centre of trade rather than a place of manufacturing, a small but efficient automobile industry exists. There are also some chemical (industrial painting) and cosmetic factories in the industrial sector of the city. But much of these industries have moved to Western Sozy, where labour is generally cheaper. Much of the 19th century sweatshops now function as houses for artists, some of the finest art. It was also the start of the Sozian film industry, notable for its slightly subjective and patriotic films.

Fishing

Even though the city does not have any significant natural ports, and most are man-made this area has attracted the fishing industry for millenia. Located 25 kilometres into sea is a coral reef with a diverse fish life, the fish of this area have been a trading good as long as there have been people in Sozy. The continuing interest of investors in the fishing industry gave the cuty such a huge advantage over other regions. The construction of 2 major ports in the 19th century greatly increased the amount of fishing productions and fish markets in the city: now one of the most popular markets in Sozy. Unfortunately, the price of fish has lowered recently, and environmental groups put a lot of pressure on the fishing industry, many fishers now have a part-time job in the tourist industry.

Tourism

The tourist sector is by any means the largest source of income for the city. From the souvenir stands to the huge hotels, favoured by the absence of estate tax. The largest tourist corporations have their headquarters in Porti Viagnèt. The tourist sector also provides many jobs for people whose profession is of no use during the summer. During the summer holiday, a large percentage of the restaurants employ students, capable of approaching tourists in their native language.

The Boulevard

The Boulevard is a famous road in Porti Viagnèt

It stretches for 80 kilometres along the coastline of the city. It functions as a multi-lane motorlane and trams, but the five kilometres bordering the centre of the city is closed to cars. These five kilometres are a paradise for tourists, ice cream stands and markets dominate the day, the evening is dominated by open-air theatres and discotheques. Five star hotels offer you a great panorama on both the sea and the crowd of life enjoying people on the boulevard. When you walk here you will be provided shadow by huge palm trees, and you can find some rest at the decorated fountains built during the Vrancian Dynasty

The boulevard was built in 500BC, but its major change came no less than 2400 years later, when most of the boulevard was widened for the purpose of becoming a motorway. It was only until recently that a small part of the route was turned into a walking area for tourists.
