Requirements for holding office

The president must be a citizen of the United States (without having to be an Edwardian borned citizen), at least twenty-five years of age, and a resident of the United States of Edward City for at least fourteen years. On assuming office the new president must take an oath to "preserve, protect and defend the United States of Edward City," to the best of his ability. While not an official requirement, the vast majority of presidents had prior experience as vice presidents, members of Congress, governors, or generals. During the electoral process, experience or lack thereof is often given as a point in a presidential candidate's campaign.
