Overview

The Great Patriotic War, as it is known in Questers, or King William's War, as it is known in Juumanistra, was one of the most destructive wars in modern history that was not resolved with a giant nuclear exchange. The war was a giant political disaster for King William III of Questers, the reigning Monarch of Questers at that time, who committed suicide before the war could end. Although the war was considered a strategic draw in Juumanistra, in Questers it was heralded as a defeat. The Questarian people were significantly humbled and the war did much to reduce the reputation of Questers as a superpower in international politics. Later, Questarian generals would be heavily criticised for their use of human wave tactics in the Battle of The Locke and their disregard for human life.

Khalium

As Third Army Group penetrated deep into eastern Juumanistra, General Terrance Yeager’s Task Force Dawn found itself driven back to the fortress at Khalium, where the line stabilized under the siege guns of the ancient fortress. The fortress anchored the line and served as the focal point for the planned Operation Temerity, which originally intended to utilize the plateau fortress as the center of a proposed encirclement maneuver of the entrenching Questarian Army.

On September 22, however, the fortress of Khalium ceased to exist as it had for more than a millennium. The London Gun fired four rounds over two hours, aimed at the fortress with the intent of leveling it. By-in-large, the London Gun did its job, collapsing over half of the fortress and destroying the siege guns that had stalled the Questarian Army, as well as obliterating an improvised air strip on the plateau that had proven of immense tactical importance to the helicopter gunships that had laid waste to the Questarian Army’s vehicle fleet.

The bombardment of Khalium also took the lives of 9,000 soldiers, most of them wounded and Home Guardsmen, as well as wounding another 16,000. “Khalium no Kioku”, a slogan which arose from the destruction of Khalium, was to become a major rallying cry for Juumanistra during the war.
