Random Kingdom is a leftist nation proud of its abnormal policies and free speech regulations. It is not so proud of its lack of prisons, but alas, that is life. It is classed as MODERN TECH (but is approaching Modern+1), and is quite advanced for its poor economical history -- largely because of the corrupt government's policy of siphoning funds out of the budget for use elsewhere. In a Nutshell
The following was written by Smith Smithson, (in)famous tour operator and recent admission to the Invertianity Psychiatric Help Programme.
Random Kingdom is a leftist nation proud of its abnormal policies and free speech regulations. It is not so proud of its lack of prisons, but alas, that is life. It is classed as MODERN TECH (but is approaching Modern+1), and is quite advanced for its poor economical history -- largely because of the corrupt government's policy of siphoning funds out of the budget for use elsewhere. It is a temperate nation located on the southern coast of The Golden Hills. Its currency is the stupend, its national animal is the uncommon gecko, and its favourite music genre is electropop, especially Depeche Mode imports.
Politics
Random Kingdom's politics are, as the name implies, pretty random and chaotic. This makes Random Kingdom politics an interesting subject. This is the political story of RK, uncut and not without the soup and coffee.
Government
Random Kingdom's government style is interesting to say the least. Former forms of government involved ministries, a prime minister (or 3 supreme ministers) and disgusting cup soup. Of course, largely due to the disgruntled consumers fooled into buying said cup soup from government-run machines, this had to change. Out with the ministers and cup soup, in with a 64-strong senate and a subsidized cafeteria. In time, this was thrown out too, along with the catering staff. (The food served could be said as being worse than prison food, yet there aren't any prisons in RK, so it isn't.) What came was revolutionary.
Today's government consists of SUs (state unions), also known by the Veratanese name Unistas Astatas or UAs. These are micro-parliaments that manage, and are managed by, the states or departments of Random Kingdom. (There are just over 5 states) These too manage and are yet managed by the CSU, the Collective of State Unions (also known as the Unistas af Unistas Astatan or UUA), the United Nations of Random Kingdom. It takes requests from the SUs/UAs, which in turn take requests from the people, and makes them national reality. This is hailed as "original" yet "easily corruptible". Plus, the coffee served in meetings is said to be the best in the Golden Hills.
Abnormal Policies
The CSU has realized many laws, bylaws (and oddities known in the loop as "apple pies"). Here are some of the strangest:
- School begins at 13:00 and lasts until 19:00, with an hour's recreation at 17:00.
- The nation has its own subsidized propaganda factory and telegram service.
- People can change their names at any time at no charge. This leads to the problem of governmental records having to be amended twice daily.
- If a person attempts to murder another, the victim can then (if witnessed) attempt to murder them, but only with biodegradable material (most people use cucumbers).
- Working from home in any way is outlawed.
- Arranged marriages for household pets are formal.
- All jobs must come with at least three perks.
- February the 29th is a national holiday.
- Recycling centres must be recycled after use.
- Apple pie leftovers must be thrown at the cook after two days.
Religion
Religious quarrels are a thing of the past after the CSU passed laws promoting the policy of "every faith is correct and all faiths are actually worshipping one god" and outlawing racism, sexism, anti-semitism and profiteroles, but the main faith is Invertianity, with atheism, agnosticism and Protestant Christianity coming close second, third and fourth respectively,
Other Trivia
The Arts
- The nation's favourite music genre is electropop, commonly known in RK as "mach". Analog synthesizers are commonplace even in today's digital world.
- Random Kingdom has its own award ceremonies, the Sonority Awards for music, the Buskell Awards for artwork, the Dramatics awards for performing arts, and the Pride of Random Kingdom for model citizenship. These aren't as big as the Brits, the Grammys, the Emmys, Pride of Britain etc, but they are highly rated and viewed.
- There is a major Performing Arts Guild in New Hope, where every enrolled apprentice has gone on to fame and fortune. It is open to anyone regardless of age, talent or nationality.
- There are no music charts in RK due to differing opinions.
