Ransium is a united democratic state, made up of 16 separate islands. Each of its islands has a distinct culture, belief structure, even the architectural styles of the separate islands are distinct. Ransium has only been an united nation for 28 years, before this time each island was its own separate nation. The islands unified in a joint decision by all islands; it was felt that unification would increase the standard of living of the archipelago as a whole. Still the states govern themselves somewhat independently, the only federal law making happens once a year in what is known as a lodge-podge, all 16 of the islands send representatives to make decesions for the entire state.

The government is most notable for its concern for the environment. Living in the fragile ecosystems of small islands has made the government extremely aware of the environment, and almost paranoid of even the tiniest environmental disturbance. For example, although tourism is one of the biggest economic inputs of Ransium, tourist and their baggage are forced through extensive search to try to prevent the introduction of exotic species to Ransium. Many of the islands have long cultural traditions of environmentalism, these islands tend to be the most active in environmental law making.

The government has concerns beyond the environment, maintaining civil and liberal freedoms is major priority of the government as well. The government also cares deeply about social equality, the government tries as much as possible to keep the poor well off so long as these efforts do not detract from society as a whole. Also, the government is extremely concerned with education, since education is in the government of Ransium's opinion, the cornerstone of a healthy democracy. Ransium has no military, relying on other more militaristic nations in forest for protection. The police force of Ransium is also notoriously underfunded.

Since March 20th 2007, Ransium has been the UN delegate for forest. Ransium cares deeply about the overall regional health and listens to the advice, comments, or request of any other forest dwellers.
