In order to grasp Askira’s more recent history you must trace it back to the foundations of the Second World War. During the conflict the republic was asked to ally with both sides in the attempt to shift the balance of power during the war. The republic’s foreign affairs minister, Karl Harrison, immediately announced that the republic had no intention of taking sides in this conflict, thus wishing to be a neutral party. Three days later Theed was bombed. Thirty-six Askiran citizens were murdered. It then emerged that the attack was carried out by the Gestapo, the Nazi secret police. Emperor Kasuna was outraged. He immediately sought justice for the victims. At an emergency senate gathering, His Majesty, Chancellor Yates, Minister Harrison and the rest of the ruling administration decided to seek justice for the crimes brought against the republic. For the first time in nearly one-hundred and fifty years the republic prepared itself to go to war.
