Robot

A robot is a mechanical device capable of performing physical tasks. A robot may operate directly under human control, according to a non-sentient program, or of its own will if it is an AI construct. Robots are usually used to perform tasks which are either too dangerous to be performed by an organic or that are so repetitive that organics find it tedious to perform them. Robots are also used to automate tasks in industrial production to lower costs and icnrease productivity, although such automation is often opposed by organized labor.

Robotic AI constructs which take the form of a human or humanoid, are often referred to as androids. An android might be an autonomous being or might serve as an avatar for a larger AI construct.
