The Rugby Premier League (RPL) is a now defunct international rugby league that lasted for one season in 2006. The league had 13 nations participating comprising a total of 32 teams.

History

The RPL was formed in 2006 directly following the 4th Rugby World Cup (RWC) which was held in the nations of Aust, Starblaydia, and PopularFreedom. Three towns from PopularFreedom, led by the owners of the Camelot Wasps, approached the RWC champions from the nation of Aust with a proposal to form a joint league between both nations. As the negotiations continued, other nations expressed interest until 32 teams had signed up to participate in the first season of the RPL.

Low attendance and lack of television exposure in most nations forced the RPL to scale back their season. After the completition of the 2006 season the league formally announced that they were to cease to exist as an entity.

The winner of the 2006 season was the team of Risian, based in Colombo, Risian Kingdom, in the nation of Risa-Aramour.
