The Empire of Hrydonia was declared approximately 1720 A.D. after Emperor Alexander I declared himself Emperor after ruling as Colonial Governor since 1715. Records are uncertain (Note: This is IC. OOC, anyone who reads much about Hrydonia will know the exact dates) as to the exact dates that the first few Emperors ruled, as Alexander I instituted a self-designed calender, based on the Gregorian calender, that dated its years from when he took office as Emperor; after his dynasty died out, more sensible heads prevailed and returned Hrydonia to its current Gregorian calender.

Interregnum After the death of George I, the war against the Aboriginals was suddenly not as important for a short time in Hrydonia, as a short civil war broke out and various regiments were used against their brethren to support their leaders; allegedly, with his dying breath the childless George I designated the 2nd Duke of Kingston, George Hamilton, as his successor. However, when this was announced two men, alleging to be illegitimate sons of George I, declared themselves Emperors and a civil war began. The 2nd Duke of Kingston won the ten-year war and was crowned Emperor in Ursanton in 1770. This is usually held to be the beginning of his rule, as for the ten years prior to this his claim to the throne was contested. The former 2nd Duke of Kingston styled himself Imperator Alexander II. This custom died out however in the mid-1800s AD.
