Ragnarok Class Super Dreadnaughts are a large part of the Shakal fleet. They provide support for the carriers and lay down heavy fire if necessary. Originally designed all the way back in 1956 during the wars with the Momo Monkey union. In 1962 they were scrapped because of the relative superiority of carriers. The war with Jucoi in 1988 led to the revival of the idea when they used over 17 old Iowa class BB to storm the Shakal fleet mostly comprised of Destroyer, light cruisers and 2 aircraft carriers. The program was given significant thought in 1999 with the war of Mt Baker on the Ungarnes Reich. A massive fleet comprised of well over 75 Mt Baker heavy cruisers launched an attack that crushed the smaller vessels of the Reich. From then on the Shakal began to sell its old Redemption Class Cruiser off to the Ungarnes Reich and is replacing them with these vessels.

Design
Like all Battleships the Ragnarok Class is heavily armed, armored, and has a fair speed for a vessel so large. The first idea came around in 1956 due to the war with Momo Monkey. It was scrapped just before the wars end because of the usefulness of aircraft carriers. The second chance for a new class of Battleship was brought up in 1988 when at the Iowa Charge as it is now known, the navy of Jucoi charged the Shakals modern fleet and sunk several smaller vessels and damaged an aircraft carrier.
The final development was in 1999 when the forces of Mt Baker attacked the Ungarnes fleet with 75 of its slightly older heavy cruisers totally devastating the entire navy of the Reich which is only now moderately recovered. The plans were officially laid down on June 1st 2001. It took six years to totally complete and commission. On exactly June 1st 2007 it was totally completed.
Armor
The Ragnarok has hardened steel plates and cemented steel plates layered against each other backed with titanium plates and ballistic ceramics. Same for the deck with a 120mm decapping plate of cemented DS steel. Large plates of ductile iron make up the first belt and deck layer.
- Armor Thickness
- -Belt: 1200mm
- -Superstructure: 900mm
- -Turrets: 900mm
- -Deck: 900mm
- -Underwater: 750mm
Along with its incredible armor the Ragnarok also has several passive protection features that are well tested and designed. Thye include a dual bottomed hull and a heavily reinforced keel.
- Passive Protection Features:
- -Double Bottomed hull
- -Keel reinforced with ductile iron strengthening.
- -Extensive firefighting and NBC equipment and filters.
- -Pressure release systems to reduce missile damage.
- -Hundreds of water tight compartments.
- -Ultra-Modern damage detection and reporting equipment.
- -Flooding and anti-flooding pumps. The ship can recover from a 21 degrees list.
- -Reserve communication arrays.
Radar
The Shakal radar systems on the Ragnarok aren't anything special. That role is usually kept to the Cruisers and smaller vessels. The Ragnarok is however not to be far outclassed in this category. It has three independent systems, the Mk 404 Search RADAR(Long Range Air/Surface Search/Tracking), the Mk 012 CIWS Director (Short Range/CIWS Air Search/Tracking), and the Mk 313 Air Search RADAR(Long Range Air Search/Tracking). Used properly these three systems easily suffice for a vessel meant for total combat.
Noted Flaws
The SIN Ragnarok may be a very powerful vessel but it is also extremely expensive. In total the project is said to have coast over 1 trillion dollars. This is 1/6 of the entire Shakal defence budget at the time of its creation. It is so expensive and time consuming to build that some question its value. They are instantly hushed by its massive guns with a range that most consider its biggest weapon. The admiralty has considered modifying the design into an aircraft carrier. The cost is considered the only major flaw in the design. If ever sunk the ship would be totally unsalvageable due to its tonnage.
