The Saetsumi Fault is a geological fault, known as a right-lateral strike-slip fault, that spans a length of rougly 1100 kilometers through Adoki. The Saetsumi Fault marks a transform boundary between the Pacific Plate and the Ambaran Plate and is known for producing large and destructive earthquackes.

Plate movement

All land west of the fault on the Pacific Plate is moving slowly to the northwest while all land east of the fault is moving to the southwest (relatively southeast as measured at the fault) under the influence of plate tectonics. The rate of slippage is approximately of 0.6 cm (0.2 in.) a year. Over the next twenty to thirty million years, it is predicted that western Adoki will become an island separated from the Ambaran mainland by a gradually expanding channel.
