The Saharistan War Coalition was formed during the Saharistan War, fought primarily between Leafanistan and Saharistan. The Coalition is considered to be founded by Halberdgardia, during the Kanos Administration, as the other members of the Coalition united behind Halberdgardian forces in their subsequent attacks on Saharistani forces following the Saharistani attack on the Halberdgardian Arleigh Burke-class destroyer D.R.H. Valiant. However, Halberdgardia has only nominal authority as the founder of the Coalition, limited essentially to interpreting the Coalition's mission, and suggesting courses of action to other Coalition members in relevant international incidents based on this interpretation. Subsequent administrations have made no attempts to increase Halberdgardia's power as founder of the Coalition.
The Coalition is currently the ruling power in Saharistan, and was also the primary force behind the reconstruction of the devastated country. Saharistan, lacking its own government following the Saharistan War, was divided among the Coalition members into political districts, essentially becoming territories of the conquering nations. (Due to inactivity in the reconstruction process following the war, Space Union's claims were ceded to the other Coalition nations, who divided the territory equally among themselves.) The reconstruction process was completed approximately fifteen NS years after the war, and today the country is in far better shape than it was under its former ruler, Musab al Zaraqwi.
Several years after the founding of the Coalition, the nations of the Saharistan War Coalition unanimously voted to eject Willink from the Coalition after Willink military forces fired upon McKagan and Leafanistani peacekeeping forces during the Arabanistan-Willink War, which is denied by Willink, who upholds that the Leafanistani cargo ships were inside a legitimate target zone, and thus the blame would fall on Leafanistan for attacking Willinkian naval forces.
