Scavenger Droids

Scavenger Droids are a type of nano machines employed by Leninist Dynasty first during the war with India. These nanites "infect" an area like a microorganism and process all matter in the area to replicate themselves. Explicitely, they were used to befall enemy personell and material, to cope with India's large population. The desease which the weapon causes has come to be named Grey Death. It leaves nothing but grey goo from a planet's ecosystem if left uncontrolled. They can also assemble themselves into larger units, like the Colonial Spider Weapons.

The SDs were the first nano systems employed by the LD and they propably served as predecessors to later systems, such as the repair systems of the GCL Repair, and the self-healing and assimilation systems of the Demon Cyborg Probe and Devil-class Cyborg.

The fact that they are explicitely not called "Predator Droids", or any other name implying some form of aggression, but instead named implying decomposing, it is likely that the SDs where originally not thought as weapons, but rather as resource gatherers or reassembling tools (like the later nano-based repair systems).

OOC and IC Parallels

The SDs are also similar to an Omega-XIII weapon, the Merciful Doom. The SDs are, OOCly, based upon Nao-Daishi from Dirty Pair. There is also a weapon called "Daishi" on IC Eden-IV, used by the Mageran AI construct Xeno. "Daishi" is Japanese and means "Great Death" - but could also be interpreted as "Great Four" - again, the Merciful Doom alludes to this by the Four Apocalytpic Riders. There is also a BattleTech robot called Daishi. The assimilation process the Devil uses based on Nanites resembles the process the Borg use.
