Properly speaking, the Second Ambaran War was the invasion of Marlund by the Resurgent Dream following the bombing of Armonvale by terrorists supported by that nation. Strictly speaking, this conflict ended when the dictatorial regime then reigning in Marlund was dissolved and replaced by a constitutional monarchy. Informally, the term also refers to the ongoing military efforts of the new democratic government of Marlund, the Resurgent Dream, Adoki, Excalbia and Pantocratoria to maintain this new government in power and to suppress rebellion by the fascist Sons of the Reformation, loyalists to the old regime, and Marxist-Leninist revolutionaries.

Terminology

The terms Second Ambaran War, Ambaran War, and Marlund War are used in official documents only to refer to the hostilities between Danaan forces and the established, uniformed armed forces of Marlund. However, many in the media and political opponents of military operations in Marlund consistently use these terms to refer to the ongoing allied military presence in Marlund, suggesting that thse operations represent a war against an enemy. While supporters of the war insist that current operations are merely an aid to the new government of Marlund in maintaining domestic order, many supporters sometimes make casual references to the Ambaran war as well.

The Pantocratorian Government has consistently referred to the on-going conflict as a peacekeeping operation while the Danaan Government tends to use somewhat more martial terms, such a counterinsurgency operations. The Government of Marlund insists that allied military forces are there simply to aid in law enforcement, treating insurgents simply as criminals. The Government of Adoki unabashedly refers to current operations as a war.
