The Senate of Isselmere-Nieland is the Upper House of Parliament. Senators deliberate in the Hall of Counsel of Pechtas Castle.

Senators are elected by proportional representation from the regions for a six-year term, with one-third of the chamber or House being renewed every two years. Unlike the Lower House, the House of Assembly, the Senate does not in fact dissolve when the monarch calls a general election. Instead, the Upper House is said to be permanently in session, a legal fiction that emphasises the continuity of the law and, more importantly, of Parliament.

House officers

House Parent: The longest serving Senator is known as the House Father or Mother, who binds each House President and Vice-President to the oath of office, and who conducts the debates during those sittings.

Gentleman Usher of the Silver Rod: Known generally as the Keeper of the House, the Gentleman Usher of the Silver Rod is responsible for the security of the House as well as for enforcing discipline within upon the order of the President of the Senate.
