Ship Prefix

A ship prefix is a combination of letters, usually an abbreviation, used in front of a ship (Whether a starship, a surface ship or other type) and often denotes said ship's nationality or type. They are most recognisable in use for military vessels -- Some prefixes being readily known amongst nations, though they are often infrequently applied to civilian craft.

Not all nations utilise prefixes, and many instead identify their vessels with registration numbers visible on the hull, or hidden from view. Of those that do use prefixes a number keep their designations classified, so that none outside their borders can use even that information to their advantage.
