The People's Socialist Republic of Skeppsdal is a small nation located in the region of Scandinavia. It is a socialist republic with the parliament, Folketinget, as it's major executive and legeslative instance. It's highest instance in all issues is the Skeppsdals People's Committee which is the council of the ruling People's Front Party of Skeppsdal. The nations head of state is Chairman Rakel Ranebo of the PFPS. The nation consits of three major provinces, which in turn is divided in to 7 smaller counties and 12 municipalities.

History

The People's Socialist Republic of Skeppsdal was founded on the 21st of January 1985 by then PFPS leader Olof Guteberg after 6 months of civil war between revolutionary groups, lead by the PFPS, and the regular army. With the decleration of the PSRS, the royal family of Edel was dismissed and The Constitutional Monarchy of Skeppsdal was no more. Since 1925 the CM of Skeppsdal was governed by Walter Adenheim of the Pride and Tradition Party (supported by the royal family). During the rule of the PTP rift between classes, social and economic, hit an all time high and political freedoms were nonexisting. Adenheim passed a law, supported by the king, making him the nations political leader until his death. All political activity was banned and several rights of the population was withdrawn, such as the right to organize in unions. Adenheim and the PTP governed Skeppsdal up until July 1984, when the Blue Revolution started and forced them away from power.

Politics

Skeppsdals official type of government is "Socialist Republic", but since the revolution in 1985 the nation has de facto been a socialist one-party state with the PFPS holding power. The UN-ratings over the nations political freedoms have been less than nice reading and is currently standing at "Unheard of". Even though dominating the nations political scene with an iron fist, government officials from the PFPS still claim that democracy is present within the nations borders, just not the "conventional bourgeois democracy found in other countries". Elections does exist, and despite the PFPS being the only allowed party, many people (granted, most of them within the state apparatus or the PFPS) claim that the diversity present within the massive parties different groups and member ranks does constitute for a democratic process with different options. This definition of democracy has, however, not impressed UN-observers.

Founded 1975

The PFPS was founded in 1975 as the result of a divide within the Skeppsdals Communist Party where several groups seceded and formed new parties. Although political parties were banned at the time, and the newly formed PFPS was forced to work in secret they quickly gained a noticeable group of followers. This was largely due to the charismatic leadership of Olof Guteberg and the fact that many prominent and experienced people from the SCP choosed the PFPS in the 1975 split. During the last years of the Adenheim rule the PFPS continued to build it's organization and quickly became the major leftist alternative, merging with several other parties/organizations, within the political underground. After the success of the 85' revolution the PFPS seized power and declared the People's Socialist Republic of Skeppsdal. It has been in power since, and it is the only allowed party in Skeppsdal.

The PFPS has a rather open policy, for being a dictatorial party, on political diversity within the party and it consists of 4 major groups, none of them official, which all represent different views on Socialism/Communism. These are:

The differences in opinion between these groups is the closest we get to political parties in Skeppsdal, and these political factions struggle for majority in the Folketing and the ability to apply their beliefs on the society. Although the nations higest instance in all issues is the Skeppsdals People's Committee (where, at the moment, members of the conservative faction, including Chairman Ranebo, is in majority) and they may stop any passed bill they wish from taking effect. This makes for a somewhat frustrating political climate within the minor groups of the PFPS in the Folketing.

Any citizen of Skeppsdal can become a member of the PFPS and official numbers show the party currently has over 3,5 million members.

Election System

Elections are held every 3rd year and the citizens of Skeppsdal votes in three elections:

  • Parliament (Folketinget)
  • Municipal
  • County council

To avoid to many names on parliament ballots, citizens of a county vote only for that counties participants in the parliament elections. Only citizens registered within a municipality are allowed to run, and vote in, respective municipal election. Same goes for county council elections.

Any member of the PFPS can put their name on the ballot.

Folketinget

The nations parliament, Folketinget, has 349 seats and is the nations major legeslative and executive instance. It is located in the nations capital of Dalströmma. Any member of the Folkting can submit proposals and over 50% of the parliament members votes is needed for approval.

Regional/International Politics

Skeppsdal has by tradition always been a very isolationistic nation. It has, at repeated times, declined entry to the United Nations and is still not a member. The reason for this being the UN view of Skeppsdal as a "non-democratic" nation. On the regional level, however, Skeppsdal has begun to contribute more and more. Not only in the debates among fellow Scandinavian nations but also in in the work for the general betterment of the region as a whole. The Skeppsdal representative (known as the Interregional-Spokesperson) is Konrad L. Karlsson.
