Facts about Socialism

There is much confusion as many people think that Socialism is the same as Communism. But Socialism was around before Marx invented Communism with his book "The Communist Manifesto". Socialism originally developed from American Christian groups such as the Amish, Quakers, and the Anabaptists. Unlike Capitalism and Communism, Socialism had no theory to support it when it first came out. Socialism has historically been used by Christians as a moralistic movement, because they were opposed to the oppression of the factory system of the industrial revolution. Socialism was a response to the break up of families, communities and small businesses. From small circles of Christians, Socialism grew to embraced by many people. Many of these people sought to use the state to protect the common people from the abuses and usurpation from the rich corporations and factory owners and other forces of high finance. Socialists basically wanted to protect the interests of society against the actions of extremely powerful individuals who, through economic means, basically controlled the world and were beholden to no one. Communism is an extremist branch of socialism and is shunned by most socialists due to its call for bloody revolutions every ten years even if there is no need for them.
