The party won its first election in 1960 and now with the PCD after a major victory over the incumbent PFP in August 2005 general elections after Jean III d’Oqqer had resigned in after a corruption scandal and an failed coup. It currently holds 154 of the 535 seats in the Grand Senate, and is a partner in a coalition with the PCD, which won 151 seats.

History

The PST was formed in 1921 among the workers of the factories in northeastern Vassfforcia along many other socialist, anarchic and communist parties. In 1950 they allied with many of these parties in the Izquierda Unida (United Left) and finally the Agrarist Party, the Socialist Party and the Labor Party all joined the PST to give the voters an option of democratic left. Since then the party has allied with the Vassfforcian Green Party, the Christian Democratic Party and since 2000 with the PCD.
