Soma

Soma is a low-risk recreational drug originating from Love and esterel, where it was developed by the country's pharmaceutical industry with help from doctors and genetic scientists, called the Doctorate Trio, that fled the United States after the Scientific Control Act. It is hypothetized that the Doctorate Trio's help in the development of Soma was not purely for egoistic reasons of making money on the drug market, but rather for the purpose of exporting the substance to the US to affect the US society and free it from the chains of the fundamentalist government, which was ultimately effective. Soma swept into the US from Columbia after the United States' invasion of large parts of Latin America and was therefore often called "the Latin Last Weapon". The substance is known for its relative absence of adverse side effects (compared to more "conventional" drugs) and its social impacts.

While there is a relative absence of negative physical side effects, Soma is known to cause severe negative psychological effects if taken regularly, but in no way are those comparable to the adverse effects of conventional drugs and Soma is in no way lethal or damaging in the long term. Since Soma suppresses feelings of aggression and sadness and boosts euphoric highs, a feeling of „being one with the world“ and sexual desire, the acctual negative feelings and absence of said stimulated feelings simply builds up: If an addict is kept without the substance for a prolonged time, the negative feelings will break out again in an uncontrolled and devastating manner, both to the subject and those around him. Another adverse effect comes from the fact that Soma boosts both the ups and downs of human emotion, depending on the condition it is taken in. Since taking Soma weakens the desire of the human mind to consume and acutally own, supporters of the drug have often stated that it suppresses the destructive effects of the human mind iteself. Some critics acknowledged this, but state that in absence of the drug, the human mind's darker sides will be boosted as well. Since Soma also boosts the human imagination, people become less prone to propaganda, and, though the state the drug causes is much like that of any conventional drug, the reaction of a subject to the outside world it causes is more accurately compared ot a knurd state, though this does not extend to inter-human relations. Soma was banned by the US government, but spread despite capital punishment on use and ownership of the substance, especially during the years of war with the South American nations, when depression gripped the US society. It was also common amongst the soldiers at the South American front, which ultimately halted the US advance into South America. The drug is used for recreational purpose in Love and esterel. Since 2006, Soma is an integral part of Gondwanan culture and used for recreational and psychological means. After Gondwana was destroyed at the beginning of the Tiberian Age, the drug remained in widespread use in the various states that followed, including Tiberian Destiny and the former center of Gondwana, The Caliphate of California.

Several nations have come into contact with the substance, each dealing with it in different ways:

• United States Of America (deceased) – banned the substance, but with little effect
• Love and esterel – in widespread use for recreational purpose
• Tiberian Destiny – legalized and widely used, but less common than the widely used Eye Candy, which is cheaper, easier to manufacture and more hazardous, though the government is looking at stamping this out
